Boost Immunity: Fight COVID19

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

We may not know how to fully stop or prevent COVID especially when it is still relatively new to everyone.

What we do know is that it’s possible that you may be infected with the virus without showing any symptoms. So it is important to maintain excellent hygiene and practice social distancing at all times to avoid contracting/spreading.

This is a list of things that all of us should be practicing in times like this to maintain our safety and immunity!

Essentials

1. Wash your hands

Do practice good hygiene by washing your hands before and after meals, and especially if you have gone out, it is good to wash your hands immediately upon reaching home! Click here to see the proper hand washing techniques.

2. Wear your mask

Do keep those mask on whenever you are out. If you are using the reusable masks, do make sure you wash them frequently to ensure that it is clean. Avoid taking off your mask when you are out as bacteria can easily enter the inner parts of your mask.

3. Adequate sleep

Sleep is important for health in general, and it may also be beneficial for our immune function. This is the work-from-home period where most of us do not have to leave our houses early in the morning. Thus, naturally we would tend to stay up later than usual. This might cause our immune system to be weakened and based on a study, the results have shown that those who slept <7 hours were 3X more likely to develop flu like symptoms than those who slept >8 hours.

4. Adequate amount of exercise

Studies have shown that those who exercise tend to suffer fewer infections than those who do not. Our advice is to clock in at least 30 minutes of light exercise on a daily basis. Especially after a long period without any exercise, one should be cautious and not overexert your body at one go. 5. Cut down on alcohol and cigarettes

Pertaining to COVID-19, some studies showed an increased risk among heavy drinkers of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the lung complication responsible for most of the COVID-19 related deaths. Also, smokers tend to have a higher risk of catching infections and suffering severe complications from those infections.

6. Diet

Do take care of your food intake! It might be worthwhile to cook your own meals at home instead of ordering via food delivery services! At the end of the day, home cook food would still be considered one of the healthier option (As you are in control of your salt/sugar intake etc)

7. Supplements

We recommend having regular Vitamin D intake as we are now confined to staying at our own home, naturally we would tend to not be exposed to sunlight. Since our skin can produce Vitamin D via sunlight, with the Circuit Breaker in place, it would be advisable to have some Vitamin D supplements to make up for that!

Do take care of yourself and your family through this difficult period. We can get through this together. #fightcovid19
