Benefits of water intake which you might be unaware of
Humans need water to survive and the longest we could go on without water could be up to 3 days (Please don't test this out and continue to drink adequate amount of water).
When our water intake is lower than our water output, we can become dehydrated. Fluid losses can be accentuated in countries with warm climates and when we are engaging in strenuous exercise. We definitely do not want to end up being dehydrated as it can lead to serious complications such as heat injury or seizures.
A common guideline would be to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. However, the amount required really depends on several different factors. It depends on how active you are, the type of climate that you are staying in and the list goes on. A guideline would be, whenever you feel thirsty, you should drink water. Whenever you feel thirsty, it is your body trying to tell you that you need to drink water.
So why is water important?
1. Maintain the balance of body fluids
Our human body is made up of 60% water. Water is necessary for our body to function properly. Water aids in the transportation of nutrients around our body. Our blood volume is also a result of our hydration. Without enough water in our system, our blood becomes sticky and flows less efficiently.
2. Regulate body temperature
Humans are able to regulate our body temperature through perspiring. When we perspire, the water that leaves our body will take the heat away from us as it evaporates. This helps to keep our body temperature controlled as water has the capacity to regulate the internal temperature of our body in response to the external temperature.
3. Helps your digestive system
Water is vital component that ensures the function of our digestive system. With sufficient amount of water intake, it would aid in digestion as it helps to break down food so that your body can absorb the nutrients. Water also softens stool, which helps prevent constipation.
4. Reduce likelihood of being fatigue
Usually due to the lack of water, it leads to a decrease in blood volume and this makes it harder and more inefficient to pump oxygenated blood around the body. With a decrease in efficiency of oxygen deliver around your body, it is normal to feel tired in this case.
5. Aid in weight loss
Hold up, we are not saying that you will be able to lose weight by drinking water. Rather, combine the efforts of a healthy diet and adequate amount of exercise with the habit of drinking plain mineral water would definitely make the process a lot more efficient. As you work out and sweat it out, you need to drink water to make up for the water loss.
Also, drinking plain mineral water would definitely be better than drinking sugary drinks if you are looking to lose weight. Since sugary drinks increases your sugar and calories intake, it would be best to avoid them and take plain mineral water instead!
