Row row row your boat gently down the stream...
Kayaking is a water sport that involves paddling using a double-bladed oar and a small boat known as a kayak. The boats come in a variety of sizes and types, depending on their intended use, but most kayaks feature an enclosed deck that covers the legs. The boats sit low in the water and usually only accommodates a single paddler, but tandem kayaks hold two people and some boats hold three.
Kayak is a versatile sport that can be done on practically any type of water body. Some kayak boats are built for racing competitively, while others are built to better handle specific conditions such as strong waves which are more suitable for water expeditions.
Is Kayaking an effective workout? Benefits?
Kayaking offers a pretty intense upper body workout. The resistance of the water provides an effective strength workout for upper body parts such as your arms, back, core and shoulders.
The legs are an integral part in guiding your kayak. Along with core, the leg and core muscles work hand in hand to steer the boat effectively.
Kayaking is great not just for strength training, but is also a great aerobic exercise. By increasing the pace you paddle at, kayaking can serve as a beneficial cardiovascular exercise. Moreover, unlike running, kayaking is a low impact sport which puts less strain on joints and muscle tissues. This in turn reduces the probability of injury.
Kayaking unlike conventional workouts which requires a gym is situated outdoors. Paddling through various different reservoirs or rivers (depending on which country you decide to kayak in) can offer a new and exciting experience. Moreover, being a family friendly sport, you can enjoy the experience with your loved ones right beside you.
