How to get 6-packs: Ignore the myths!

Updated: Apr 19, 2020

I am sure you see many celebrities and artists with their amazing six-packs and think that they are have the right genes or they have to adhere to a certain workout routine and diet to achieve that, Well, what this post serves to do is to debunk any misconceptions that you may have about having those chiseled six-pack.

I have listed down some of the common misconceptions that people may have while pursuing their goal of having six-packs.

#1: If I do crunches and sit ups, I will get those abs!

Although these may be the most "popular" or well-known core exercises, simply relying on that would not be an efficient way for you to get those chiseled abs!

You need to know and understand that our core muscles can be broken down into a few categories (well to keep things simple)

And just by doing sit ups or crunches would not fully utilize your core muscles. There are several other effective core exercises that would target the specific parts of your core.

#2 I need to go to the gym and use the weights to lose the weight!

To be very honest, some of the most effective core exercises requires only your body weight and that is more than enough to make sure you stress your core till your reach hypertrophy.

By engaging in body weight exercises, it allows you to have more control over your body and it definitely gives you the opportunity to listen to your body and feel your body naturally.

Also, not to mention, you can engage in body weight exercises at the comfort of your own home! And you get to save on those (exorbitant) gym entry fees too!

#3 If I do all the core exercises, i will definitely get those abs!

To be frank, it is a combination of many different factors.

Firstly, our core is covered by a layer of fats. And unless you are able to get the layer of fats down to the optimal percentage, your washboard chiseled abs would never show up.

Cardio/aerobic exercises/HIIT could aid you in the process of burning fats so that your abs would show. Those exercises would keep your heart pumping and blood flowing, this would cause your body to burn up more fats and calories along the way. By engaging in such activities, it would help you lower your fat percentage if done consistently and correctly.

Secondly, achieving the dream does not just come from working out, it also depends on your food consumption. If you are to consume more than you are burning, your fat percentage would not lower and thus, it will prevent you from reaching your goals.

Adequate control of calories, oils and fats intake could be the trick to helping you reach your goal at a quicker rate.

Lastly, consistency is the key to achieving your goal. If you were to do those exercises once a month, it would be almost impossible for you to be able to achieve those chiseled six-packs. You need to plan out a workout schedule to help you get there. Alongside the schedule, you would also require high level of discipline to make sure that you would get out of your bed, put your phone away, say no to fatty foods and get down into action and exercise.

In the end, we believe that there are much more content regarding myths on six-packs which are not covered under this post. We will be sharing more of such content along the way so be sure to check them out!
